Unit 5 - Reflective work

To finish CSC-200 you complete the reflections assignment. The reflective work combines what you have learned in this course with introspection about your own possible career and how your life will be affected by the computers of today and  the future. Readings on this are included in Unit 5 of the course workbook.

Begin reading about the reflective assignment by the start of the 8th week of the 10-week term so that you have enough time to do give it plenty of thought.

The video below explains something you may want to give serious consideration to. You need to be creative in how you apply yourself to the career you'll follow. Here is some good advice about a way to apply your skills and talents in a rewarding way. You've already learned skills in this course that can make you a hero to many organizations. Think seriously about what this short video recommends!

Here's an thought:  Many organizations such as non-profits, charitable groups, churches and small schools can use a simple, information-providing web site. Tune up your skills, polish up your presence, and volunteer to create a site for a group. Manage their expectations because it's all too easy for users to get carried away--build a site that provides a simple organized way for them to present their information online and constrain "fanciness" to their posting information about events and contact names/number. You might even teach them how to create and post a videos on a web page on such a site, just as I present the video above.

A simple information-dispensing web site is really exactly what most groups need--and for one of their own to be able to change and update content! This can be based on exactly the same kind of free blog site you use in capstone Project 4.2! Build this and train the organization to maintain their own web site. Accomplish this and you will be a hero who gets talked about! Some of the ears hearing those positive words will belong to people who are in a position to offer you opportunities.
